Cleanup Fall 2001

Stream Cleanup 20 Oct 2001:

The event went very well. We collected several shopping carts, pallates, and about 25 large bags of garbage out of the stream behind the industrial area off Willard Road in the morning. Karen Waltman (703) 631-0013 from FCPA at EC Lawrence Park was very thrilled. She said that she was going to submit Pack 146 for a community service award for our outstanding turnout and our support over the years.  In the afternoon, we cleaned a stream bed near the corner of O'Day and Route 29. With a much smaller crew, we picked up 11 huge bags of trash, a car jack, and a chair. We were joined by eight girlscouts and their families in the afternoon.  I don't know why, but they went off somewhere else!

Only one casualty: In the afternoon, one of the Dads was stung by a bee or wasp and had an allergic reaction.  FFX County Rescue was called and they took him by ambulance to Fair Oaks where he is recovering nicely and under observation.  Scary at first. Of course, his son looked a bit distressed to see Dad in such a state, but the first words out of his mouth when he got home to Mom were, "Mom, I gotta talk to a Fireman!" All are well.
